A report published in the Lancet has concluded that global fertility rates have dropped over the last 60 years. The reasons include better work opportunities for women, greater access to contraceptives and fewer child deaths. There is a debate as to the global repercussions of the drop as some people are worried about the shrinking ageing populations.
