UHS Carers Rights Day Celebration

At University Hospital Southampton (UHS), we are committed to becoming a more carer aware organisation, ensuring unpaid carers are recognised, valued and supported throughout their experience with our services. Shaped directly by feedback from carers, this commitment has been identified as a key Quality Improvement Priority for 2026/27 and is driving positive changes across the Trust.

As part of this work, UHS has developed a new Carers Policy, alongside a dedicated Unpaid Carer Information Leaflet designed to answer common questions, provide practical information and signpost unpaid carers to available support. We are also launching a new Carers Pass from the week commencing 16 November 2026, which will help carers communicate more effectively with UHS staff about the support they provide, how they would like to be involved in their loved one’s care, and how we can work together more effectively as partners in care.

To mark Carers Rights Day, UHS will be hosting a celebration event on Friday 20 November, 1.00pm-3.00pm, in the Patient and Family Support Hub, B Level, East Wing. The event will be an opportunity to learn more about the new carers policy and support available at UHS, whilst celebrating the invaluable contribution carers make every day. We look forward to welcoming carers, staff and partner organisations as we continue to strengthen our partnership with carers and create a more carer-friendly hospital experience for all.
