In Southampton that amounts to 66,679 unpaid carers.
Carers Week 7-13 June 2021: Make Caring Visible and Valued
An annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges unpaid carers face and recognising the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK, Carers Week also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
This week and next, please look out for employees, colleagues and clients who are carers so you can signpost them to us for information and support.
We also have four days of free events planned next week for you to share with others in your networks. All events need booking.
Four gentle walks
Tuesday at 2pm Central Library, Watts Park
Wednesday at 2pm Riverside Park
Thursday at 10am Cafe, Royal Victoria Park
Friday at 2pm Cowherds, Southampton Common
Health and fitness session
Change the way you move and join in an inclusive online exercise class hosted by Don’t Tone Alone (DTA) on Tuesday 8th at 10am.
Peer support virtual Cuppas – one evening/one morning session
Join a peer support virtual cuppa hosted by carer Claire Cook. It’s a place to connect with others, have fun and focus on yourself. The theme is “Being visible and valued” – where carers can share what this means to them. Choice of Wednesday 9th June at 7.45pm or Friday 11th at 10am.
Introduction to advocacy services
Advocacy means getting support from another person to help express your views and wishes, and stand up for your rights. Find out about local advocacy services for carers or their ‘cared for’. On Wednesday 9th at 10am.
