Community Mental Health Survey 2020

The Care Quality Commission has published its report following its survey of people’s experiences of of mental health services for 2020.

People consistently reporting poor experiences for crisis care, accessing care, and involvement.

The survey report provides a breakdown of how each Trust is doing.   Here is the report for Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, which offers adult mental health services in the Southampton area.

Southern Health CQC mental health survey 2020

Southern Health compares ‘about the same’ to the vast majority of the Trusts surveyed in all the surveyed areas, so is in step with other mental health services.

A concerning number of people did not know where to get help in a crisis. As we find through the feedback we receive through Healthwatch Southampton, accessing mental health services is a concern for many people who report long waiting times.

Areas of potential improvement include around feedback, with people completing the survey reporting that they had poor experience of being asked for feedback. ‘Support and wellbeing’ is another area where there is potential for significant improvement. For example, NHS mental health service could do more to offer advice around financial issues, benefits, access to work and volunteering.

There is disparity in the experiences of different groups of people, especially among respondents with different diagnoses.

It is not all negative, people reported some good experiences around the organisation of care.
