Dr Emma Crosbie is leading a research team trialling a new test which will be an alternative to the smear test. The test will be detecting the virus HPV which has been linked to cancers including cervical. It is hoped that this new treatment, which still needs more testing before being recommended to the NHS, will increase cervical screening attendance.
